N64 Butterfly

Today I've been revising the basic butterfly from Spirit Lens, also known as the "Janufly."

I started off by making a 32×64 texture in Aseprite, using mirror mode and the fill tool to get the basic shape before adding more detail.

I then created a set of color variations for the different rarities of Janufly in the game.


(Note: the "shiny" body texture is achieved using a simple gradient — very effective!)

As usual, the geometry itself is very simple:

So yeah, just a quick update on the new, "braver" and more "brutalist" visual style.
